Biomimetic Technology Tree

  1. Research papers collected using biomimetic key words and books.
  2. Matrix relating biological length scales to engineering concepts.
  3. Biological length scales run along the x-axis while the engineering concepts run along the y-axis.
  4. Each piece of research is classified based on its engineering application and its biological size.

Example

  •  This paper is inspired by the human immune system, therefore it fell under the “systems” column of the biological length scale.
  •  It uses this inspiration to develop a computer response to viruses, therefore it was placed under the “behavior” row of the engineering branch.

  •  This paper is inspired by the fruit fly organism Drosophila melanogaster, therefore it fell under the “organism” column of the biological length scale.
  •  It attempts to mimic Drosophila melanogaster flight in the development of control systems in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV).
